Adult Leadership

In addition to the outstanding youth leadership that develops within NFTY, there is a very strong structure of adult leadership.  On the North American level we have a full-time staff working to ensure that NFTY works as a coherent North American youth movement.  There are trained regional advisors for each of the nineteen regions who supervise the NFTY regional boards and are responsible for the health and safety of the participants at the weekend events.  These advisors are dedicated youth workers who have committed themselves to educating our Reform Jewish teens.

The temple youth group (TYG) advisors are adults who supervise the local youth groups at URJ affiliated congregations around North America.  Whether part-time or full-time, these adults work with all of the participants in their youth groups.  They serve as positive roll models and mentors for their teens and are there to help guide NFTYites as they learn about Judaism, gain valuable leadership skills, tackle school work, and as they grow into mature Jewish young adults.

Another benefit of NFTY is the opportunity to engage with Clergy, both rabbis and cantors, outside of the sanctuary.  The clergy interact with the participants in a way that fosters the clergy-congregant relationship, which has a very profound inpact on the development of a teenager's Jewish identity.  Teens begin to see clergy as real people who they can talk to, share jokes and laughs, and with whom they can sing.
