NFTY’s heart and soul is the local Union for Reform Judaism affiliated synagogue Temple Youth Group (TYG). While each local TYG differs in organization, focus, size, and character, the Temple Youth Group is the outlet for the highly engaged Reform Jewish teenager in a Union Synagogue. While some TYGs only meet 5 times a year for social programs, other TYG’s meet over 20 times each school year and offer a full variety of social, leadership, educational, and social action programs.

NFTY CAR has 21 active youth groups from all across the Chicagoland area and Champaign-Urbana. A TYG is a Temple Youth Group or sometimes called a Senior Youth Group. If you are a 9th - 12th grader and a member of a URJ Congregation you are a member of your synagogue's youth group. They are a great opportunity to meet and socialize with Jewish teens outside of a religious school setting. TYGs are the foundation of NFTY CAR - a youth group is a place to meet new friends, learn more about Judaism, and have a great time.
These youth groups are each unique and different. They do all kinds of amazing activities: bowling, whirlyball, havdallah, Second City, and many more. Each TYG has an advisor and with their TYG board plan monthly programs, many TYGs have more than just one activity a month including weekly youth lounge hang out nights.
