Our program is so packed with unique events and highlights that each day stands as its own memorable experience. It’s hard to describe a typical day at NFTY Convention, but here’s an idea of some of what might go on…
FRIDAY
- Arrive in Washington, DC, by plane, train or bus.
- Check into the hotel, meet your roommates and others.
- Celebrate Shabbat with almost 1500 Reform Jewish teenagers, including a Kabbalat Shabbat service, song session and opening ceremony.
SATURDAY
- Shabbat continues... with breakfast, torah study and tefilah (prayer) with your NFTY region, then join together for the Torah service filled with singing and dancing.
- Shabbat afternoon is dedicated to programming focused on the NFTY Study Theme, Jewish-Muslim dialogue, as well as opportunities to connect with your camp, region or other Youth Program.
- As Shabbat winds down, the NFTY Convention concert turns up the heat. Join Dan Nichols, Chana Rothman and other special guests as we rock through to havdalah.
SUNDAY
- Spend the day touring DC through the lens of the NFTY Action Theme – Jewish Perspectives on War. Touring will include visits to the Holocaust Museum, the War Memorials, hands-on tikkun olam opportunities and interactive learning with young Jewish war veterans.
- Once back at the hotel, we’ll enjoy dinner and evening entertainment, which will be highlighted by the NFTY Competitions finalists.
MONDAY
- Election of the 2009-2010 NFTY North American board.
- Spend the morning taking care of your body and soul. From unique tefilah options to workshops ranging from the arts to outdoor winter hiking, this morning is all about taking care of you.
- The afternoon will offer a variety of workshops and speakers based on NFTY’s Thirteen Principles. From issues about Israel to social justice and leadership development, you’ll be able to choose what to attend on site. We’ll finish the afternoon by celebrating NFTY’s thirteenth principle, Kef v’Ruach – Fun and Spirt – with an exciting musical gathering.
- Conclude Convention with our best night yet – NFTY’s 70th Birthday Bash! An exciting evening highlighting the best of music and digital media, the announcement of the 2009-2010 NFTY North American Board, and special honors and awards to mark this wonderful occasion in NFTY’s history.
