The Good Ole “Clap” Method
Simply say, “if you can hear me, clap once (or twice, or three times, or whatever). The other alternative to this method is clapping a certain rhythm. Once people hear the rhythm you’re clapping, they will follow you. Eventually, the room will get quiet, and the attention will be yours!

The “I’ll Be Quiet So You Should Too” Method
This is another very popular one. However, it only works when everyone is seated. Everyone will see you in the front of the room, not talking. They will soon catch on, and stop talking. You may be asking yourself, “Why doesn’t it work when everyone is standing?” This is because everyone will be on the same level as you, and probably won’t be able to see you. If everyone is sitting, and you’re standing, you will be golden. Silence is golden.

The “If You Can Hear Me...” Method
Simply say “ if you can hear me…                 ”. For example, you might say, “if you can hear me, touch your nose” or start spewing out lines of the Cha Cha Slide (part two of course). This is always a fun and effective way of getting a room nice and quiet.

The “Start Loud, and Get Quiet” Method
If you start talking LOUD to grab their attention, then lower your voice to bring them in…the room will magically get quiet.  However, it’s always important to be confident when you speak, or else you can be sure that nobody will listen.  Rabbi Mike Mellon is a fan of this one.

The “Just Do It” Method
Simply start talking. People will get it quickly.
