A Role Model
Now that you’re elected, people are watching you…REALLY! Recognize that the members of the TYG look to you to set an example. Be aware of your behavior at all times, even when you are not actively leading. Lead by example. Never ask someone else to do something that you wouldn’t do yourself.

A Prepare-er
Think ahead. TYG events and meetings can be hectic. Make sure the details are reviewed beforehand.
• Are all the materials in place?
• Has there been sufficient publicity?
• Is the time to schedule reasonable?
You will be able to enjoy the event a whole lot more and focus on other leadership responsibilities when you know that everything is ready and planned for. The earlier you get things done, the better you’ll feel!

A Person with Wonderful Attendance
As a role model, you should be attending all meetings and events. If you expect the board members to be making the TYG a top priority, you need to be doing the same. Let the members of the TYG know that they have a dedicated president.

An Approachable Board Member
The members of the TYG should feel comfortable approaching you. Try to be friends with everyone. Trying to make that personal connection will make you the leader that everyone wants to follow. If each member feels comfortable coming up to you with feedback, then you will be able to make your youth group that much better.

A Motivator
You’re involved in the TYG, obviously. Other people however, just aren’t always as enthusiastic as you are. Keep them motivated! Be inspiring! Enthusiasm breeds enthusiasm…its science! A motivated board is a hardworking board. Don’t stop there. Make it a personal goal of yours to reach out to all of the TYG members. Never underestimate the values of a non-board participant. Encourage people to serve on committees and begin projects that interest them. Members like to feel needed!
