Know your material! Know your material! Know your material!
- Be familiar with your program…know it in your sleep
- Make sure that all your group leaders know the program as well
- If you don’t know something don’t be shy, ask your resources!
Listen!
- Listen to what every participant has to say
- Keep the group quiet and make sure that everyone is respectful
- Make eye contact and be attentive … your body language says a lot about what you are thinking so be sure you show that you are actively listening
- Sit with the group and don’t act like you are above the participants
Be in control!
- Don’t let your group get out of hand
- Know what question is next so that you can keep the discussion flowing
- Try to involve those who aren’t participating
- You are the facilitator so only add comments when necessary and be sure not to take sides
- You can play devil’s advocate a bit
- Watch the time
BE ENTHUSIATIC!!!!
- If you love your program so will everyone else!
