NFTY Board 2007-08 Appointment Process

August 29, 2007

Fellow NFTYites,

I wish to express my sincere gratitude for your patience, which has allowed the NFTY Board to effectively establish a framework for appointing two new NFTY North American Officers. NFTY seeks to fill the North American positions of Religious and Cultural Vice President and Membership and Communications Vice President.

As this process will set significant precedence in NFTY, the NFTY Board chose to create a two-tiered committee structure, which was comprised of NFTY Board alumni, clergy, professional staff, and lay leaders, so that the NFTY Board would have guidance in creating a process that was reflective of NFTY’s values and based on the highest moral and ethical standards.

You will find three documents that outline NFTY’s process of appointing North American officers:

NFTY Board Appointment Process.pdf

This document explains the background and rationale behind the process that was created by the NFTY Board, in tandem with the NFTY Executive Advisory Committee and the NFTY Executive Review Committee. If you delve deeper into the document, you will find the detailed report of the process, as well as the timeframe by which the appointment process will be carried out.

NFTY Board Appointment Application.doc

This is the actual electronic application for individuals that are interested in having their names taken into account for consideration by the North American Board. Additionally, contained within the document are a series of required questions for the applicant to complete.

NFTY Board Background Information Packet.pdf

This is very similar to the packet that was filled out by candidates who have sought North American Board positions in the past. This packet contains important information for prospective candidates and their parents regarding the expectation of North American Board Members. This document also includes parental, rabbinic, and advisor certification forms.

With that said, if you feel that you know a strong candidate that would be great for filling one of these positions, I ask that you please encourage them to fill out an application and submit it to both Melissa Goldman (mgoldman@urj.org) and me (nftypresident@urj.org) by Tuesday, September 4th at 3 p.m. EST/ 12 p.m. PST.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to send me an email for clarification. Thanks again for your patience and understanding.

I hope that each of you enjoy a new year filled with love, warmth, good health, and happiness.

Shanah Tovah U’Metukah (Good and sweet year),

Zach Newburgh
