About Our Region

Each year, teens from Reform congregations all across Michigan gather together at NFTY-MI regional events, called kallot (Hebrew for "study meeting"). Kallot may last for anywhere between 24 hours and five days, incorporating experiential educational and social programming, unique worship experiences, social action opportunities, songs, cheers, and, most of all, fun!

NFTY-MI is a unique, teen-only community where participants create lifelong friendships and solidify their Reform Jewish identity. We are led by a seven-member regional executive board elected each spring by their peers. The regional board members work on planning regional events with hosting TYGs (Temple Youth Groups), serve as leadership and programming resources for the region's members, work on year-long projects related to their specific board position, and represent NFTY-MI at North American events and board meetings.

Here are short descriptions of each of NFTY-MI's yearly kallot. For more information about a specific event, please refer to the "Contact us" or "Event Information" pages of this website:

Leadership Kallah (early Fall): A networking and training weekend for newly elected TYG board members, who spend much of the event meeting with their regional board counterparts and other TYG leaders from across the region. The first NFTY-MI general board meeting of each year is also held at Leadership Kallah.

Fall Kallah (late Fall): NFTY-MI's official social action event! The host TYG picks a programming theme for the weekend, often related to the year's NFTY Action Theme. This event is open to all NFTY-MI members.

Winter Kallah (late January): Escape the cold with NFTY-MI! We spend the weekend enjoying programming planned by a host TYG, all leading up to our annual semi-formal dance! All NFTY-MI members are invited to attend.

Boards Kallah (late March): Our business-focused event. Boards Kallah centers on the process of electing a new regional board, and we convene the second (and final) general board meeting for the year. NFTY-MI members who have attended two regional events during the current programming year may vote in regional board elections.

Spring Kallah (mid to late April): This bittersweet event marks the official end of the NFTY-MI programming year. Much of the event centers around friendships and memories as we review the year bid a fond farewell to our graduating seniors. This event is open to all NFTY-MI members.

We can't wait to see you at the next NFTY-MI event!
