NFTY-PAR Cookbook
Who Doesn’t Love Jewish Food?

From breaking the fast on Yom Kippur to having a Seder on Passover, cooking and eating continues to be a pivotal part of our culture as Jews. We pass down recipes l’dor vador, from our Bubbie’s Bubbie to our Bubbie to our mother, and finally to our own children.

This year, NFTY-PAR wants to share those deliciously generational recipes with everyone! With your help, we will publish a NFTY-PAR Cookbook (the official title will be created by a NFTY-PAR member).   All profits will go to the NFTY-PAR Scholarship Fund which subsidizes teens’ attendance at NFTY events.

How Can YOU be Part of the Cookbook?

We are asking members of PAR and their families to submit recipes that they love and would also love to share! These recipes can range from holiday dishes, to breakfast, lunch, dinner, appetizers, dessert, kosher dishes as well as any other types of recipes you would like to contribute. To be respectful of those who keep kosher, we are not including recipes that have pork or shellfish products.

How to Submit a Recipe

All recipes must be submitted by November 25th, 2012.

Recipes should be submitted by email to parcookbook@gmail.com.

Recipes should include:

            Title

            Name of person/people

            Ingredients

            Directions

Any additional information that you feel is necessary

Example (WARNING: this recipe is for the purpose of modeling the structure ONLY. It is fake and in no way a proper recipe to be attempted):

            Benny’s Brisket

Submitted by Benny Schwartzgoldenstein and his mother, Rachel.

            Ingredients:

               ½ cup of water

               ¾ cup of love

               12 lbs of chocolate

               1 lb of brisket

Directions:

Mix water and love in a bowl.

Pour on top of the brisket.

Cook in oven for 1 hour.

Add chocolate to the top layer.

Additional Information:

This may seem like an unusual way to make brisket, but 1/1000 people find it delicious.

We are so anxious to see the delicious recipes you submit! Our goal is to have the cookbooks ready for purchase at WINSTY 2013!  Don’t miss the chance to celebrate your family’s most treasured recipes!

Cookbook Cover Contest

We also need your help to create a cover page for our cookbook! If you are interested in digitally creating an artistic cover page, you may submit your concept(s) by email, to parcookbook@gmail.com. They must be in by November 25th, 2012. If your art is chosen, it will be featured on the cover! Not only will you be able to cook a delicious meal for your next family gathering, but you will also be able to show off your art to everyone sitting at the table!

Join the fun!  Make your family’s cooking legacy a published item in the NFTY-PAR Cookbook!

NFTY-PAR Celebrating 10 years with PAR Advisor
Dear NFTY-PAR Member, PAR Alum and Families,

My name is Dean Kroker, and I am the current Fundraising Vice President of NFTY-PAR (some of you may recall this position as the NFTY-PAR Treasurer).  I'm sure you remember your days in NFTY-PAR fondly: singing our NFTY cheer, praying, learning and socializing as a community.  WINSTY, our social action event, was held a couple weeks ago, and we had our largest turnout of any Winter Institute!  With nearly 170 participants, we all gathered at Main Line Reform Temple to do community service projects, learn, cheer, sing and pray.

Recently, the URJ (Union for Reform Judaism) created an impressive new program, the Campaign for Youth Engagement (CYE) which has great expectations for increasing service to and for the youth in the Reform Movement. Our NFTY-PAR President Sarah Horn was a member of the original committee that met to discern the needs of our youth.  New URJ President Rabbi Rick Jacobs is determined to build a significant youth movement for Reform teens.

Here in PAR, we have strengthened our teens and are extremely grateful that Amanda Wachstein, your and my current NFTY-PAR Advisor, has now spent a total of ten years with us.  Her extraordinary dedication to NFTY-PAR and the Reform Jewish community has left an impact on all of us. Many PARites have been significantly influenced by Amanda, a role model and mentor for each teen.

PAR events cost money; many families need financial help for their teens to attend PAR weekends. We depend on the NFTY-PAR Scholarship Fund to make sure money does not prevent any individual from coming to events.  Primarily, we rely on donations for this scholarship fund.

To celebrate Amanda's tenth year and honor what she has given to all of us, we are asking you to make a special contribution this year to our scholarship fund. Every dollar will be appreciated; no donation is too small…or too big! Please send checks Attn: NFTY-PAR (Donation In Honor of Amanda Wachstein), PO Box 60448, King of Prussia, PA 19406.

Let’s grow NFTY-PAR’s Scholarship Fund to honor Amanda and to enhance PAR event attendance!

Thank you in advance for your contribution.

Sincerely,

Dean Kroker

NFTY-PAR Fundraising Vice President 2011-2012/5772
