Tu BiSh'vat

Tu BiSh'vat is a celebration of the renewal of the land, most often associated with trees. A well known tradition for Tu BiSh'vat is to plant a tree in Israel, to help renew the marshy land to a habitable place that also provides sustinence. NFTY recognizes the need to help renew forests and trees in our backyards, our cities, our country, and the world. In this Tu BiSh'vat resource section, you will find Jewish texts about trees and renewing the earth, readings that can be incorporated into a service and several links that will allow you to make a difference.

Another tradition that is being revived is the Tu BiSh'vat seder which originated in the 1600's in Israel. We have included a sample seder for you to use or adapt with your family, friends or TYG.

As we enter the Tu Bish'vat season, NFTY and the Union for Reform Judaism are highlighting our many resources which assist in supporting greening efforts, including programs, publications, blogs and more. Visit www.nfty.org/green for more information and to join with us!
