Every year, NFTY chooses to focus its learning on one topic – the NFTY Study Theme of that year. NFTY-wide, regional, and TYG programming can focus on the Study Theme, as do all programs submitted for the Tikkun Olam Award, NFTY’s creative programming award. For the 2005-2006 year, the NFTY Study Theme is “Taking the Reform Jewish Journey: Embracing Tradition and Exploring Innovation.” The Study Theme can be divided into sub-categories by its name to further focus our exploration of this topic.
Tradition
• Jewish text, ritual, and thought
• The history and evolution of the Reform Movement
Innovation
• The structure and bodies of the Reform Movement (which allow for the specific processes
of innovation in the Movement)
• Personal Jewish Journeys/Personal connections to Judaism
Exploring this topic is vitally important to us as we find our place in the Reform Movement and connect to Reform Judaism. By embracing tradition while exploring innovation, taking our own Jewish journeys, we will grow as Jews and make our Movement stronger.
